“If you receive a prophet as one who speaks for God, you will be given the same reward as a prophet. And if you receive righteous people because of their righteousness, you will be given a reward like theirs. And if you give even a cup of cold water to one of the least of my followers, you will surely be rewarded.” — Matthew 10:41-42 NLT

Here’s the context. Jesus was talking about the cost of following Him as a disciple. He warned that family members may reject you — or even turn against you — because of your faith.

But if we persevere and find a new family that is spreading the gospel, we should help them reach their God-given goals. In doing so, we become part of that family and will share in their reward one day in heaven.

In other words, Satan comes to destroy believers — but Jesus gives us new life so we can help others find new life too. As the late, great evangelist Reinhard Bonnke proclaimed:

“JESUS SAVES SINNERS, TO SAVE SINNERS!”

And of course, one of heaven’s greatest rewards belongs to the soul-winners:

“Those who are wise will shine as bright as the sky, and those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever.” — Daniel 12:3 NLT
