Many people turn to tarot cards, astrology, psychics, or fortune-telling in search of answers about their future. But where do followers of Jesus find true guidance for life today?
In the Old Testament, priests wore an ephod—a chestpiece with stones representing the twelve tribes of Israel. Two stones were unique: the Urim and Thummim. “Insert the Urim and Thummim into the sacred chestpiece so they will be carried over Aaron’s heart when he goes into the Lord’s presence… to determine the Lord’s will for his people.” — Exodus 28:30 (NLT). Through the high priest, God revealed His direction to the people.
That was then. Today, because of Jesus, we no longer need a human mediator. We are all priests unto God, and His Spirit dwells within us. Through Christ, we come boldly into God’s presence to receive strength and wisdom in times of need.
The Holy Spirit now speaks directly to our hearts. He convicts, guides, and leads us into all truth. This is why we must pray for “big ears”—a sensitivity to hear what God is saying. “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.” — Revelation 2:29 (NLT).
So instead of chasing fortune-tellers or worldly predictions, let us pause, listen, and trust the Spirit’s voice. Our future is not hidden in cards or stars—it is secure in Christ. His promises anchor us with hope, and His Word assures us that He has good plans for our lives.
When we stop and listen, we discover that God’s guidance is not mysterious or distant. It is personal, present, and powerful.
