Retirement Rewards

One retiree was asked by his friend, “now that you are retired, what are you going to do with your time that has eternal value?”

Some spend hours monitoring their stock values. Other save the whales. While others waste their remaining time watching old TV reruns.

Now, there’s nothing wrong with what I wrote above. But there’s so much more to life! God’s will is that you would bear much eternal fruit, even in your older age.

But many younger Christians have also retired. Every time they avoid God’s will for their life, they retire to a lesser version of what God planned for them. The 12 spies put fear in all the people, keeping them out of God’s promised land for Israel for 40 years.

When we all stand before Jesus someday, our earthly works will be judged. No, not for entrance to heaven. We are already going to heaven through Christ’s forgiveness.

But as Christians, God will give out heavenly rewards based on our earthly time we spend on His Great Commission…. spreading the good news of Jesus!

“Behold, I (Jesus) am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to each one according to the merit of his deeds (earthly works, faithfulness).” Revelation 22:12-13 AMP

I want your reward bucket to be full and overflowing! That’s why the opening question above is so important for all of us to think and pray about. What rewards am I laying up for eternity?

What does God value most? People. Sinners. And salvation.

Let’s partner with Him this week by praying, “Lord, I’m available today!”
