Focus

Are you focused? Do you rule your feelings, or do your feelings rule you?

When a man joins our USA army, he goes through a grueling training called boot camp. It is several months of physical and mental training, teaching them to die to their own feelings and desires, and live for their army. It teaches them to honor the word of their commander more than their own desires. It teaches them to run into battle, and not away from it.

Their focus must be clear to hear and immediately obey their commander.

You know where this is going. Our commander is our Lord. The word ‘Lord’ means our boss and commander in chief. His word is our command. Whether we live or die, He is our leader. If Jesus is our commander, it’s impossible to say “No, Lord!”

So it was with the apostle Paul. God gave him an assignment to take the gospel of Jesus to the Gentiles. Paul was focused on his task. For better or worse, he would finish it.

“But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.” Acts of the Apostles 20:24 NLT

Paul found his greatest joy and purpose in fulfilling his Lord’s command! Even if he went to jail for sharing the gospel, this was his focus… and his pleasure!

This is one reason many Christians are not happy or fulfilled… they have forgotten their Lord’s command. They have become spectators rather than competitors. They’ve lost focus.

Jesus was sent to earth by His Father for a purpose. So are we.

Our main purpose on earth is not to make more money, buy a house, or have a nice family. Our main purpose from God is clear…

…to know God, and to make Him known. To hear His voice, and immediately obey.

That’s our sweet spot! This is what satisfies our soul, and brings great delight to our lives!

There’s three ways to enjoy your sweet spot:

1. Get equipped to share your faith, and then prayerfully do it.

2. Prayerfully and financially support ministries like Oasis that are spreading the gospel.

3. Do #1 and #2 regularly.

Stay focused… for eternity’s sake. You have the privilege of being enlisted in God’s army.

“No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.” II Timothy 2:4 NKJV

We share our faith, to obey our commander, the Lord Jesus Christ.
