Tests of the Lord

We don’t like tests. School tests. Work deadlines. Social etiquette. They put demands on us.

But God also tests us. Not so He knows what’s in our heart, but so we get a clear picture of our own spiritual growth. God then helps us fix what needs fixing, so we grow even more.

For example, consider Joseph. God gave Him a dream where he would be exalted over his brothers. But his dream had a much higher purpose…he would save his people from famine.

“He sent a man before them— Joseph—who was sold as a slave. They hurt his feet with fetters, He was laid in irons. Until the time that his word came to pass, The word of the Lord tested him.” Psalms 105:17-19 NKJV

Yes, Joseph was betrayed by his brothers, and sold into slavery. He was exalted, only to be falsely accused, and sent to jail. He was exalted in the prison, and helped others, but was forgotten when they got their freedom. God was refining Joseph’s character.

Jesus calls it pruning. The branch that bears no fruit is cut off. But the branch that bears fruit is cut back, so it can bring forth even more fruit.

What dream has God put in your heart? Expect some pruning on your journey. And welcome the tests of the Lord, because God is refining your character, preparing you for an even greater harvest!
