In all my travels, Israel is my favorite destination. History comes alive here.
To walk outside the temple ruins on the very stones that Jesus walked on is amazing. And to pray at the Mount of Olives by the same 2,000-year-old olive trees where Jesus prayed is overwhelming. Joining many others in prayer at the Western Wall, the very foundation of the OT temple, is historic.
“O Jerusalem, I have posted watchmen on your walls; they will pray day and night, continually. Take no rest, all you who pray to the Lord. Give the Lord no rest until he completes his work, until he makes Jerusalem the pride of the earth.” Isaiah 62:6-7 NLT
The picture here is of a heavenly battle being waged by the watchmen on the walls. They pray continuously without rest. Then Isaiah also invites them to give God no rest, but to continue to barrage Him with prayers.
I am reminded of the NT parable of the woman who kept pestering the judge until He finally heard her case. Or the man who tirelessly continued knocking on his neighbor’s door until he arose from bed to help him.
It seems God delights in our persistent prayers. So let’s pray without ceasing. Let’s give God no rest. Let Him sense the urgency in our hearts, and the power of our faith in Him!
“Because I love Zion, I will not keep still. Because my heart yearns for Jerusalem, I cannot remain silent. I will not stop praying for her until her righteousness shines like the dawn, and her salvation blazes like a burning torch.” Isaiah 62:1 NLT
“I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at my word.” Isaiah 66:2 NLT
