We love more power… in our cars, our jobs, and in our sports teams!

But God has the ultimate power waiting and residing in each of us. There is more untapped power within us than any of us can realize. It’s the power of His Spirit.

Read how the Spirit’s power affected Paul and Barnabas:

“One day as these men were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Appoint Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them.” So after more fasting and prayer, the men laid their hands on them and sent them on their way. So Barnabas and Saul were sent out by the Holy Spirit. They went down to the seaport of Seleucia and then sailed for the island of Cyprus.” Acts of the Apostles 13:2-4 NLT

Did you see that? They were sent by the Spirit. The disciples’ fasting and prayer preceded the Spirit’s sending. And their Spirit-mission brought much fruit in the island of Cyprus.

Likewise, our fasting and prayers will enable the Spirit’s sending of us. And we will also see much greater fruitfulness.

We see the Spirit commissioned them,

sent them, and empowered them!

If we want to see God’s plan He formed for us from our mother’s womb, we must fast and pray, then listen and obey. The Spirit speaks the will of God to our heart.

Seven times the same verse is repeated in the book of Revelation to the seven churches:

“Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.” Revelation 3:6 NLT

Fasting, combined with prayer, helps clear our ears from the sounds of our earthly culture, so we can more clearly hear the sounds of heaven! Fasting and prayer helps us hear what the Spirit is saying. Sometimes we hear during a fast, and sometimes after the fast.
