We were all born to become. That’s how God created us.
We were never born to remain a baby. Everyone is born with a divine purpose. As we grow up and mature, our earthly assignment is to find our purpose… and fulfill it.
Our first universal purpose is to recognize our own sin, repent of it, and make Jesus the leader and Lord of our life. This unlocks our ability to find our next purpose.
Our second purpose is to discover and live out our divine mission as a follower of Jesus.
Before Jesus came, God looked on the earth and saw there was no justice. No following God’s purpose. And no intercessors. Check out this verse:
“He was amazed to see that no one intervened to help the oppressed. So he himself stepped in to save them with his strong arm, and his justice sustained him.” Isaiah 59:16 NLT
This verse is a prophetic picture of the Messiah being sent as ‘God in the flesh’ to be our intercessor. He was a warrior, on a divine mission… to seek and save us. How?
“He put on righteousness as his body armor and placed the helmet of salvation on his head. He clothed himself with a robe of vengeance and wrapped himself in a cloak of divine passion.” Isaiah 59:17 NLT
In this verse we see God’s four pieces of armor: the breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation, a robe of vengeance, and a cloak of zeal and passion.
HIS CAUSE?- Righteousness showed the justness of His cause, and zeal demonstrated His undying love. We also get to share this divine cause.
HIS EFFECT?- Salvation to His people and vengeance on His enemies. Only God can do this.
So, what’s our mission? God invites us to share His cause of righteousness and zeal.
In Ephesians 6 we are also told to put on the breastplate of His righteousness, reminding us we stand in His strength and not our own. We’re also invited to put on the shoes of preparation of the gospel of peace. It means we’re full of His zeal, ready to go and tell.
When God looks for intercessors today, may He find us…warriors who are filled with His Spirit of righteousness and zeal, both equipped and ready!
