Breath of God

Without breath, we will die in just a few minutes.

And without the breath of the Holy Spirit, we also die spiritually. Only His presence makes us whole. Only His presence gives us life.

God spoke to the prophet Ezekiel, and showed him a valley filled with dead-man’s bones. God asked him the same profound question He asks us…

“Then he asked me, ‘Son of man, can these bones become living people again?’

‘O Sovereign Lord,’ I replied, ‘you alone know the answer to that.’

Then he said to me, ‘Speak a prophetic message and say, “This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, O breath, from the four winds! Breathe into these dead bodies so they may live again.”’

‘I will put my Spirit in you, and you will live again and return home to your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken, and I have done what I said.’”

— Ezekiel 37:3, 9, 14 (NLT)

The message was clear. Man cannot truly

live without the breath of God.

God asked Ezekiel to prophecy to those dead bones, and ask the Spirit to bring them to life again! When Ezekiel prophesied, it happened! The people of Israel had new life and vision once more.

Think about the breath of God. From God’s first breath into Adam and Eve, to Ezekiel’s valley of bones that came to life from the winds of God, to the upper room where the wind of the Spirit filled them all at Pentecost, to us today who must be daily filled with the winds of the Spirit…it’s real.

The Holy Spirit is our best friend. As His breath fills our spiritual lungs, we live again! We dream God’s dreams again. And we become compassionate and bold to share our faith again!

“Holy Spirit, please breathe on me again today!”
