As We Go, God Direct Us

God’s ways are different than ours. We go by faith at God’s leading, but then God directs our steps and our stops.

Consider this incredible story of the apostle Paul:

“Next Paul and Silas traveled through the area of Phrygia and Galatia, because the Holy Spirit had prevented them from preaching the word in the province of Asia at that time. Then coming to the borders of Mysia, they headed north for the province of Bithynia, but again the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them to go there. So instead, they went on through Mysia to the seaport of Troas. That night Paul had a vision: A man from Macedonia in northern Greece was standing there, pleading with him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us!” So we decided to leave for Macedonia at once, having concluded that God was calling us to preach the Good News there.” Acts of the Apostles 16:6-10 NLT

But there’s more to the story. When they finally went to Macedonia, they faced great persecution, followed by great victory. Since God sees the future, He leads us into battle… so we can eventually win!

As Paul obeyed, and went to Macedonia, the following 7 Spirit-led events happened there:

1. Lydia, a seller of expensive cloths, was saved and baptized with her whole household.

2. A fortune-teller was delivered of her demon and set free.

3. Her masters got mad that her power was gone, so they dragged Paul to town to be severely beaten, and thrown into prison.

4. While in prison praising God, God sent an earthquake to set them free.

5. Their jailer and his whole family got saved and baptized.

6. The city officials apologized to Paul and Silas, and begged them to leave the city.

7. Before leaving, they met with all the believers and strengthened their faith.

The Holy Spirit prevented them from going to Asia, and Bithynia. Why? So they could go to Macedonia in Greece. God planned for them to influence that city… at that moment.

As we can all see, God directs both our steps and our stops. As we go, God directs us.
