Abide as His Disciple

Do you visit God occasionally, or live with Him?

As I grew older, I realized what my parents appreciated most. It wasn’t a nice gift they loved. No, their children were the gift they loved. They loved hearing from us…a phone call, email, and our presence was the best. So it is with your parents.

So it is with God.

“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.” John 15:4, 8 NKJV

To abide means to live there, to be there, to be joined in fellowship, and to remain. It means you are no longer a guest, visitor or spectator, but part of the team. You’re family!

“for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’” Acts 17:28 NKJV

We are so loved and important to God, that He sent His Son to die for our sin, and rescue our relationship with Him! And now He invites us to live with Him… to abide with Him.

It means we get to talk to Him daily in prayer about everything. In every joy, every sorrow, and every time we need wisdom, we talk. We don’t have visiting hours with God, because He is living inside us by His Spirit. It means we love to read His word daily, and ask Him to speak something fresh to us. It means we daily look for His nudging to share our faith. His message of love is engrained in our hearts. His joy becomes our joy!

The more we abide in Him, the more we realize He desires our success. In fact, He is most happy when we bear a lot of spiritual fruit. Our fruitfulness is our mark of maturity as His disciple.

So let’s learn to listen to His voice more than any other voice. And let’s bear lots of fruit…for His glory. This is what puts a smile on both of our faces!
