Don’t just tell me what to do—show me what it looks like!
Most people grow weary of endless advice. But they are inspired when they see someone actually living out what they believe. There’s something powerful about watching a person step out in faith and do what many others only talk about doing.
Over the years, after sharing my personal faith story, I’ve often had people tell me, “I’m a Christian too, and I know I should be doing that.” Seeing someone else take action gives them courage to take their own next step of faith.
“For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.” I Thessalonians 1:5 NKJV
The apostle Paul emphasized this same truth to the church at Thessalonica. His message was clear: the gospel is more than words. It is a life to be lived and a power to be experienced.
In other words, don’t just talk about the works of Jesus—step out and do them!
If Paul were sitting across from you at McDonald’s today, enjoying a hamburger and some fries, he might eventually lean forward and ask, “Are you doing the works of Jesus?”
That’s a question worth considering.
Jesus first sent out His disciples with the command to minister to people in need. Later He said, “As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” We have been called not only to believe in Christ, but also to represent Him to a hurting world.
A simple place to start is by making yourself available to God. Pray and tell Him you’re willing for His love, compassion, and power to flow through your life. Then keep your eyes open. Every day, people around us are hurting physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
So how could this look in your life? When you see someone struggling, allow the compassion of Jesus to move your heart. Introduce yourself, offer encouragement, and ask if you may pray for them. Pray with faith in the name of Jesus, trusting God to work according to His will and wisdom.
Sometimes you’ll see an immediate answer. Other times the results may come later. Either way, people are touched when someone genuinely cares enough to stop, listen, and pray.
And when the opportunity arises, share what Jesus has done in your own life. Your One Minute Witness faith-story may be the spark God uses to change someone’s eternity.
If you’ll pray for these divine appointments and remain available to God, He has a remarkable way of connecting you with the right people at the right time.
The world doesn’t need more empty talk. It needs believers who carry both the message of Jesus and the love of Jesus wherever they go.
