Go to bed happy

I love sunrises. That makes me a morning person — which means sunsets and I have never really gotten along.

But regardless of how my day went, I’ve made a decision: I’m going to bed happy.

Here’s my secret. When my head hits the pillow, I don’t replay what went wrong. Instead, I’ve developed a simple habit that has changed everything — I replay the highlights of my day and thank God for each one.

“When I remember You on my bed, I meditate and thoughtfully focus on You in the night watches.” — Psalm 63:6 AMP

And of all the highlights I could replay, there is one that rises to the top every time — the moment I got to share my faith with someone that day. I think about the conversation, the joy I felt, and their response. And if they prayed to receive Jesus? Well, that memory practically puts a smile on my face before I even close my eyes.

If you have never had the privilege of praying a salvation prayer with someone, I want to encourage you with everything in me — go after that moment. It will become one of the greatest highlights of your life, and you will not soon forget it.

Then, if I’m still awake, I do one more thing. I turn my mind toward God Himself. As my thoughts begin to slow and drift toward sleep, I meditate on His glory, His holiness, or what heaven might actually be like — knowing that one day I will experience it all firsthand. It’s a little like being a kid lying in bed the night before a trip to Disney World, wondering what’s waiting just around the corner!

“You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy. I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night.” — Psalm 63:5-6 NLT

Here’s the truth: there is no shortage of wrong, heavy, anxious things to think about. The world will gladly fill your mind with worry if you let it. That’s exactly why we have to be intentional — we must choose what we think about. And God doesn’t leave us guessing:

“Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” — Philippians 4:8 NLT

So tonight, don’t hand your mind over to the worries of the world. Take control. Aim your thoughts toward heaven. Thank God for the good things He gave you today — and go to sleep trusting Him for an even better, Spirit-led tomorrow.
