20/20 Vision

In the late 1900s, there was a musical called “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

One of its songs was called “Day By Day”. It said we desire to “see Thee more clearly, love Thee more dearly, and follow Thee more nearly, day by day”.

Did you know God also desires for us to see Him more clearly? But we have a problem. We can’t see Him fully if we stay inside our churches and our comfort zone. Why? Because God is not just in the church, He is also very much in our world.

And to see Him more clearly, we must see what He sees…. with eyes of compassion for the lost and sinner, and not eyes of judgment or degradation.

To get 20/20 vision, let’s look at Acts 20:20 and see what Paul’s example was to us:

“[you know] how I did not shrink back in fear from telling you anything that was for your benefit, or from teaching you in public meetings, and from house to house,” Acts 20:20 AMP

In other words, fear holds us back from moving outside our comfort zone. Fear clouds our vision from seeing how God could use us. And fear silences our witness to those who need to hear from God most.

Fear is not our friend. Fear is not from God. Fear

has torment. So why do we respect it?

Because we are usually more concerned about ourselves than others. Rather, we must see what Jesus sees, by daily asking God to fill us with His heart of compassion for others.

If we really want to follow Jesus day by day, then buckle up, because Jesus loves adventure. He loves to surprise the devil with his faith. He loves to set people free from sin. He loves to heal the sick. And He delights in honoring His Father!

In fact, God dreams of us joining Him in His co-mission… Him and us spreading the good news…day by day!
