This is one of the most incredible verses in the whole Bible! And it’s right at the end.
“The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.” Revelation 22:17 NLT
Theologians see two possible meanings:
1. The Holy Spirit and the bride (us, the church) give a final call to the world to “come” to Jesus. Then the new believers also call to their friends to “come and drink freely”. There is no other living water that can satisfy our souls, and it’s totally free!
2. The Holy Spirit and us call to Jesus to “come” again and rapture us to Himself. Then the new believers also call to Jesus to “come” and bring us to heaven. And they give a final announcement for all others to “come and drink freely” from the well of salvation.
I love this verse because we are partners with
the Spirit! So let’s join the Spirit…and do both!
First, we share our faith, and give others a final call to repentance. This opens the doors to eternity in heaven for them. Let’s join the Spirit in declaring the Lordship of Jesus to our world, announcing His offer of salvation, and pointing people to the only water that can satisfy their thirst.
And second, we invite Jesus to return soon. Our new nature desires to go home to our real eternal home in heaven. Let’s join the Spirit in calling for Jesus to come and take us to heaven. Let us anticipate and cry for His soon return, and for our promised inheritance!
Jesus is coming soon… perhaps today.
