Do you like to run? I know some who are addicted to it.
But God is also looking for runners to advance His love to the hurting and broken.
In this case, King Hezekiah decided to call the Jewish people back to true worship in the Temple in Jerusalem. They had fallen to worship other gods, and had forgotten their true God. So Hezekiah appointed runners, men who would go from town to town heralding the King’s invitation to return to Jerusalem and celebrate the Passover together!
So the runners ran. But many laughed at them. But they still ran all the more.
“At the king’s command, runners were sent throughout Israel and Judah. They carried letters that said: “O people of Israel, return to the Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, so that he will return to the few of us who have survived the conquest of the Assyrian kings. Do not be like your ancestors and relatives who abandoned the Lord,… but submit yourselves to the Lord. Come to his Temple, which he has set apart as holy forever.” 2 Chron 30:6-8 NLT
Although many laughed and ignored the runners, others did not laugh. And many returned to Jerusalem to experience one of the great Passovers in their history!
“There was great joy in the city, for Jerusalem had not seen a celebration like this one since the days of Solomon, King David’s son.” 2 Chronicles 30:26 NLT
Are you running for Jesus? Are you heralding His love to the hurting and downcast? Are you looking for daily opportunities to share your own faith-story?
If so, great! And if not, you can stop listening to the laughter of our culture towards people of faith, and you can laser-focus on the mission Jesus has invited you to embrace. When you invite others to the cross of Jesus, great joy will be experienced both on earth and in heaven!
Let’s join the millions around the globe who are joyfully declaring the good news of Jesus to all who are willing to listen!
