Welcome to the Club

Are you fearful? Intimidated? Lonely? Overwhelmed? Confused? Welcome to the club!

All godly people have been tested with these feelings. All have temptations that nag and demons that haunt. And all godly people have had to learn to defeat their struggles through faith! Yes, even your spiritual heroes have to defeat every lie of the enemy daily!

Why do these feeling exist? Because we still live in a broken world where Satan still has influence. Even Jesus was tempted.

But all Jesus-followers belong to a special club of forgiveness, redemption, courage and hope!

Our God is not their god. Our Rock is not their rock. And our God makes us more than conquerors! Yes we’re tempted, but we don’t have to yield, because our God is greater!

“Be strong and courageous! Don’t be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria or his mighty army, for there is a power far greater on our side! He may have a great army, but they are merely men. We have the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles for us!” Hezekiah’s words greatly encouraged the people.” 2 Chronicles 32:7-8 NLT

In the scripture above, the whole city of Jerusalem was about to be ambushed by the wicked King Sennacherib of Syria. He boasted about his previous conquests, and he mocked their God. But King Hezekiah of Jerusalem told the people not to listen to his threats, but to remember God was on their side. God would fight their battles!

And it was true. You have to read this to believe it….

“Then King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz cried out in prayer to God in heaven. And the Lord sent an angel who destroyed the Assyrian army with all its commanders and officers. So Sennacherib was forced to return home in disgrace to his own land. And when he entered the temple of his god, some of his own sons killed him there with a sword.” 2 Chronicles 32:20-21 NLT

Did you get that? Sennacherib’s god failed him. But our God won’t fail us! Yes, we may hear fear, pride, lust and greed knocking on our door. But compared to our God’s power, it is nothing. Listen to our God’s voice, trust Him, and then obey Him. Pray fervently to our God, because He will respond and deliver us from every temptation and threat!

Guaranteed. (1 Corinthians 10:13- memorize it!)

When all the brokenness has run its course in this world, we’ll echo the words of Job: “But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and he will stand upon the earth at last. And after my body has decayed, yet in my body I will see God!” Job 19:25-26 NLT
