I don’t understand how some people love to watch horror movies. They want to be scared, and have an adrenaline rush.
But there’s nothing more scary than being judged by God, and being found guilty. And that’s what was happening to Governor Felix as Paul was talking to him:
“As he reasoned with them about righteousness and self-control and the coming day of judgment, Felix became frightened. “Go away for now,” he replied. “When it is more convenient, I’ll call for you again.”” Acts of the Apostles 24:25 NLT
When people don’t have a healthy fear of the Lord, they have a fear of being judged by God.
And so it is when we share our faith. As they listen, they are either convicted and humbled, or they are afraid and want to stop this conversation.
“Now he uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ everywhere, like a sweet perfume. To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved, we are a life-giving perfume.” 2 Corinthians 2:14, 16 NLT
Fear has torment, and many are continually tormented in their thoughts. But God’s perfect love casts out fear. Only then are we truly fearless!
So when we share our faith, let’s understand our words are causing them to rethink their relationship with God. The Holy Spirit is convincing them of God’s truth as we speak. And to some it is welcome. But to others, it is horrific.
