Compelled by the Spirit

Have you ever felt the nudge of the Spirit to do something?

Maybe He urged you to forgive someone. Or to serve someone in need. Or to share your faith with a specific person. His nudge means two things: He wants to use you, and you are still listening to His voice!

“…Paul was compelled by the Spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ.” Acts 18:5 NKJV

When Paul felt the nudge of the Spirit, it was a tall task. He was to tell the Jews that Jesus was indeed the Messiah they were looking for. He knew it might cause an uproar. And it did.

“But when they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook his garments and said to them, “Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.”” Acts 18:6 NKJV

Paul basically said, ‘I quit. I will go to the Gentiles who have never heard, rather than put up with all your back-talk and persecution.’ But God wasn’t ready to quit yet.

So Paul went next door to a believer’s home, thinking he was done in this city. But then something wonderful happened.

Crispus, the ruler of the Corinthian Jewish synagogue, decided to put his faith in Jesus, and then all his household believed in Jesus! When the news spread, many Corinthians also believed and were baptized!

So just when Paul was ready to give up, God moved mightily! In fact, Paul didn’t leave town as planned, but stayed there 18 more months teaching and growing the Messianic believers!

May we also seek for and listen to the compelling nudge of the Holy Spirit. May we not quit prematurely telling our friends about Jesus. But rather, may we learn to hear and obey His voice, leaving the results in His hands.

Revival may be coming sooner than we think!
