Have you ever seen a deal on social media that seems too good to be true? It probably is.
But here’s a deal that should be Headline News! No just judge on earth would grant this deal to anyone. It’s recorded in Psalms 32, as a prophetic look into the grace of Jesus shown toward all of us.
“Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty!” Psalms 32:1-2 NLT/ Romans 4:7-8 NLT
Did you get that? Not only were the sinner’s disobedience and law-breaking forgiven, but his record of wrong-doing was erased, as if it had never happened! It’s called being ‘justified’.
Can you imagine a guilty person in his orange jail clothes, feeling remorse as he stands before a judge, who is about to sentence him for his crimes? But instead of his expected guilty verdict, the judge shocks everyone. He declares he is forgiven. And even more shocking, he is found innocent, and his record is cleared of guilt! This would be breaking headline news today!
Here’s the shocker. We all, as former sinners, are now viewed as saints…clean before God by the blood of Jesus.
“Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.” Romans 3:24 NLT
But wait, there’s even more. We are not on probation, nor do we wear an ankle-bracelet to monitor our activities. No, rather it’s the opposite.
Jesus has actually invited us to be His ambassadors! We get to speak for God! We are His trophies of grace, and thus our changed lives are the advertisement to others of His great grace!
We have graduated from being the dwelling place of demons, to becoming the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. Now He speaks through us to our world, calling people to be reconciled to God! Paul was so humbled by this thought:
“For I am the least of all the apostles. In fact, I’m not even worthy to be called an apostle after the way I persecuted God’s church. But whatever I am now, it is all because God poured out his special favor on me—and not without results. For I have worked harder than any of the other apostles; yet it was not I but God who was working through me by his grace.” 1 Corinthians 15:9-10 NLT
Here’s the bottom line. God saved sinners like us, to save sinners like us.
And that, my friend, is why we joyfully share our One Minute Witness faith-story.
