Story
Fresh-water wells are a priceless commodity! Along with poverty, the unavailability of fresh drinking water is an urgent need for one in every six people. The World Health Organization estimates that 80% of the world's diseases stem from impure drinking water and food.
More than 1.5 million children under the age of five die each year from illness associated with contaminated drinking water. Primary diseases contracted from unclean drinking water include cholera, diarrhea, typhoid, roundworm, hepatitis and dysentery.
It is estimated that over 80% of India's population does not have access to clean drinking water. Indians regularly drink water from lakes, ponds and rivers. This is the same water used for bathing, laundry and watering cattle.
This reality is especially true for rural villages. In Andhra Pradesh, a mostly rural Indian state, there are over 3,000 villages without a water source! Rural Indian women spend an average of four hours a day collecting and purifying drinking water. According to The World Health Organization, India's water shortage is expected to worsen in the coming years.
Fresh water is indeed a commodity that represents an urgent human need. Its supply represents a life-giving place of importance in the affairs of Indian village governments and their various functions.
Will you help bring living water to thirsty people? Oasis World Ministries is a Christian non-profit organization reaching into third-world areas. We drill wells with installed hand pumps in targeted rural villages that have no fresh water supply. To date we have drilled over 200 wells, with plans to drill many more.
You can help! You can sponsor the drilling of a fresh-water well in India for $1,000 U.S. dollars that will supply a village of up to 5,000 people with clean, running water.
Oasis World Ministries is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit corporation in the USA. It is a member in good standing with the Christian Stewardship Association. Donations are tax-deductible.
