Waters of Love

Fresh water is a priceless commodity!

Oasis World Ministries believes that the expression of Jesus has to be in both word and deed. We present the gospel in word and through acts of kindness that can greatly help them.

There are few greater gifts than that of clean water to an emerging nation. Most disease in our world today comes from impure water. The gift of a fresh-water well is open to an entire village regardless of caste. When people come to the well, they are greeted by a plaque that reads, “Touching the world with the love of Jesus.” It is truly a gift that keeps on giving.

Statistics

Along with poverty, the unavailability of fresh drinking water is an urgent need for one in every six people. The World Health Organization estimates that 80% of the world's diseases stem from impure drinking water and food.

More than 1.8 million children under the age of five die each year from illness associated with contaminated drinking water. Primary diseases contracted from unclean drinking water include cholera, diarrhea, typhoid, roundworm, hepatitis and dysentery.

It is estimated that over 80% of India's population does not have access to clean drinking water. Indians regularly drink water from lakes, ponds and rivers. This is the same water used for bathing, laundry and watering cattle.

This reality is especially true for rural villages. In Andhra Pradesh, a mostly rural Indian state, there are over 3,000 villages without a water source! Rural Indian women spend an average of four hours a day collecting and purifying drinking water. According to The World Health Organization, India's water shortage is expected to worsen in the coming years.

Fresh water is indeed a commodity that represents an urgent human need. Its supply represents a life-giving place of importance in the affairs of Indian village governments and their various functions.

Quenching thirst with clean, running water
In addition to sharing the Gospel, your donations meet tangible needs. Oasis drills fresh-water wells that supply clean, running water to support the daily water needs of an entire village. On average 250 people visit an Oasis well each day. Oasis has drilled over 300 fresh-water wells with plans to drill 70 more in 2010.

Story: Three brothers under the age of eight raise money for a well

You can help! You can sponsor the drilling of a fresh-water well in India for $1,200 U.S. dollars that will provide a daily supply of clean-running water to an average of 250 people. That's just $5 to supply one person with their daily water needs.
