National Evangelists
Each National Evangelist conducts weekly three-day festivals throughout India's most unreached villages to share the Gospel to people who have not heard. Evangelists introduce 5,000-10,000 people to Jesus as Savior each year.
National Evangelist: Simon Peter
Simon Peter was born into a very poor Hindu family of eight. There wasn’t enough food, so his father took Simon and his siblings to surrounding villages to sing and play instruments for money. His father was a Hindu priest and wore unique clothes and jewelry. His father and his priest friends would worship the monkey god and raise money to build a temple.
When Simon was in eighth grade the family’s house burned down and their hardships grew. In tenth grade, he asked his friends for their wasted paper, so he had paper for school.
After tenth grade, Simon wrote songs and sang at schools and hospices so that he could raise money and stay in school.
In 1991 Simon’s cousin had accepted Jesus, and she invited him to visit one of their prayer meetings. He didn’t want to accept Jesus before because of the poor impression he had of British foreigners.
One of the pastors heard Simon sing and asked him, “Why don’t you sing to the living God?” Simon started to learn some Christian songs and began singing at churches and open air meetings. One day the local pastor shared the plan of salvation with Simon. He realized his need to turn from his life of gambling, drinking, and cheating people and accept Jesus. So Simon prayed the sinner’s prayer. He couldn’t open his eyes and he felt an electric current come through his body. He started crying and shouting out, “God forgive me of my sins.” Simon was baptized that day.
Simon's father did not like that he made a decision to follow Jesus. But one day his father came to the Bible College to visit Simon and he heard the student’s testimonies. Simon’s father accepted Jesus.
After his father died, he helped raise his siblings and began his ministry. In 2000, Oasis built a church for his village and another in 2003 at a different village. As an evangelist with Oasis, Simon says, “I feel it is a great privilege to be an evangelist with Oasis and bring many souls. Many are blessed by the mini-festivals. It’s only God’s grace to be used in such a way. I am really thankful for this privilege.”
